Sugar
bush management tour:

Roads
and trails are necessary in the sugarbush to help producers access
the interior sections. They are used for hauling materials such
as tubing into the sugar bush. They are also used to remove firewood
or other forest products following forest management practices.
In addition to these utilitarian uses, roads and trails are also
great for recreational activities like cross country skiing, hiking,
and hunting.
The road or
trail network should efficiently provide access to all areas, and
should not take up too much space. Smaller roads and trails are
generally preferable to large roads with gravel, due to the cost
of building bigger roads and their potentially negative impact on
soil processes. However, a main road through a large sugar bush
might have gravel to allow for use during wet periods.
